Tiki Mugs galore!

It might be more obvious than I like it to be, that I got my name from something, not from birth. I'm just totally into Tiki-style and Polynesian Pop Lifestyle and used to run around with a self-printed shirt with some Tikis on it in college. So they started calling me that way, which admittedly I grew very fond and proud of.

If you wonder what that "Tiki" actually means, here's a Wiki quote:
Tiki refers to large wood and stone carvings of humanoid forms in Central Eastern Polynesian cultures of the Pacific Ocean. The term is also used in Māori mythology where Tiki is the first man, created by either Tūmatauenga or Tāne. He found the first woman, Marikoriko, in a pond – she seduced him and he became the father of Hine-kau-ataata. In the Māori language, the word "tiki" was the name given to large wooden carvings in roughly human shape, although this is a somewhat archaic usage. The carvings often serve to mark the boundaries of sacred or significant sites.....

For quite a while I'm trying to sketch my own Tiki for a logo or some other personalized use.  But I still can't decide which style to pick. - I LOVE THEM ALL! ;)

Nevertheless I just found another site, where they show a huge collection of tiki mugs. They come in all shapes and sizes! I wish I had money to purchase some... But maybe it would even be cooler to sculpture my own version... hm,... that's a thought worth working out further...

But for now, here are some favourites from Surfcitytiki (presented on Ooga-Mooga)

Das erste DaWanda-Buch ist da!

YAY!! Here it is! Finally, a book from DaWanda!

Kreativ mit DaWanda

DaWanda?! - What's Dawand?!--- if this question pops into your mind, let me tell you it's SO worth learning the answer! ;)
I cite their FAQ Website here:
"DaWanda is a marketplace where you can buy unique, customised and handmade products made by talented people, and sell your own creations. It also functions as a meeting place for artists, designers and creative individuals, buyers and sellers alike. On DaWanda, you can find out about the creative minds behind the items for sale, compare notes with other members, comment on products, be inspired by great design and share ideas and experiences in the blogs and forum.
Plus on DaWanda you can find a huge selection of handcrafting supplies (fabric, beads, accessories etc.)
And since Summer 2009 we have also included a category for vintage products us. For us, vintage means: unique ‘Products with Love’, which are at least 20 years old."
Those of you knowing ETSY, will have a déja-vu on DaWanda, but that's sure a great thing! Never enough Handmade goods out there! =)
I have my little virtual booth at that platform, too. THough at the very moment there's only one item online... I promise to work on that!

   Well, to the point:
DaWanda published a book! And I SOOOO need to get it!
For the time being it's only in german I think, but I must spread the word and promote it, because it surely is worth even just for the pictures of items! ;)

Color-Quest or: how blogger Holly Becker's book made my day brighter without even opening it

LUST AUF WOHNEN: Das große Ideenbuch
german

Decorate: 1,000 Design Ideas for Every Room in Your Home
english
Today I got back from college, where I scavenged our uniquely well sorted library again and took a bite on the sunny balcony with my newest prey: the German version of Holly Becker's Interior Design book DECORATE! ^-^ Some of you might know Holly as the writer of decor8 - one of the most popular lifestyle & interior decoration blogs out there.

Since it's a library book, they removed the book wrapper and I was totally in love with the color of the naked hard-cover already when I saw it standing in the shelf.
Because the german edition's cover looks like this:
WHAAAAHH - OMG FUCHSIA!! =D ;P
Oh, and here's just a little sneak peek of the inside;)

BUT! Now to the clue!

What happend was this: I layed the book on our kitchen table while I was making some green tea and then just en passant I turned around and there it was!

A DREAM of Color-Combination!!!

Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm crazy, but THIS must have been one of those "happy accidents" Bob Ross  (r.i.p. <3) used to talk about!
I had used a small mirror with a green frame before, that was still lying on the also green covered table, next to the package of my green tea bags, and one of these kitchen clips in pink as well as my only retro-rosé knife were also (fortunately) not put away yet.
All this together gave me an instant Kick of Joy!!! I just HAD to get my camera!

C'mon isn't it splendid?!!? =D

After being so unexpectedly and extremely inspired I decided to go on a COLOR-QUEST through our apartment! =)
(that's just so much better to spend an afternoon than working on exam preparations.. ehem...*whistling innocently*)

Here's what I found....
(And pleeeease please excuse the bad photo quality on some pics...My camera's not of the newest technique and already has some errors and focus problems... If anyone has a DSLR camera for sale??...MAIL ME! ;)

my intentions...

the office
oh, Hi there! (^-^)//

So you stumbled upon my Blog thingy. How swell!
Reading this here means you want to know what's going on at this page..or with me, right..
hm, let me try to give a brief explanation then.

In short:
I'm a student of Architecture & Interior Design with a huuuuge passion for Colors and everything Creative, Fresh and Life-styling.

Crafting and Creating are my imperatives. Therefore you'll find a lot of tips and projects posted here whenever I find the time to make something.
Also, I have thing with trying to systematically improve and tweak just about everything life relevant -
from Artwork and Attitude, over Housing, Learning, Nutrition, Organizing... to Zen-converting life approach.

So this site is simply for sharing my Finds, Makes, Diys and Research with YOU! =)

In detail:
So, although time is a rare good, I'm starting this here after several years of too-much Interwebs presence anyway.
The most important reason for this blog is my passion for art handicrafts and tinkering, that disturbs even the most stressful exam-learning-times, making it hard to keep up priorities when being obsessed by a new crafty-idea again.
If I were free to do so, I'd sooo love to make things and art all day! =)
But one problem is the time and the other is, that even when I find some time, I often lack the final kick to start a project, because I've got a painfully purpose-aimed mind.
That means when I don't really see a use or function for anybody else than myself I'm kinda tied up in this idea, and it's most likely to stay just that: an idea only.
Thus with a mind stuffed with the urge to work off these growing amount of ideas..well concentration and daily life ain't easy to handle. :/
Craft-enthusiast might know what I'm talking about. ;)
Nevertheless, as soon as there's the opportunity that an idea could give someone else an advantage, I'm totally be able to go for it with all my heart and joy!=)
That way I've made a lot of handmade presents for family and friends.
Handprinted Shirts for my brothers, decoupaged books, clocks or boxes for my mom, cushions
for friends, drawings for my dad, etc.etc…
Sometimes I keep stuff, when it's been just test-crafts or customizations. But that's not the goal.

So here's the thought:
In need for a way to get myself more crafty again and live out the ideas for the sake of more balance in my head, I'm gonna dedicate this blog a DIYary.
I'll try making documentations of tinkering stuff, share my experience and - if good enough - sell the endproducts in my DaWanda shop (wich is like Etsy, just that it's based in Germany).

Another purpose of this blog is simply sharing inspiration!
(Actually in my family it seams there's some kind of rare genetic "disorder" going around, we call "der Stieg'sche Zeigezwang!" [zeigen=to show/share ; zwang=compulsion/force]. ;)
My brothers, as well as myself and even my mom regularly go through phases of wild enthusiasm about random current obsessions or excitement about any discovering so much, that we just can't help but run around telling people about it to share our joy. )

Looking, researching, sharing stuff on various www-communities became (intended or not) a regular feature of my daily life wherever I could press it in.
Being a student of Architecture & Interior Design, I'm kind of addicted to anything possibly inspiring and creative. Combined with my uncontrollable curiousness for the world, arts, people, science and philosophy I just can't stop excessively researching ever-new topics in this endless ocean of information called The Internet.
So over time I grew a monstrous amount of bookmarks and picture-folders, trying to keep
up organizing them in useful order.

But now, what to do with all this inspiration and tips!?

Besides the studies, a part-time job and household to care for there's never enough time to use/memorize all those tips, thoughts and ideas.
Therefor I'll try to feed this blog with all those treasures so that they may have a purpose for
passer-byes and friends (to be).^-^

Introducing Tiki's colorworld Part.1

All found on A Creative Mint's Blog and their Flickr Album

The first thing people say, when entering my home for the first time is always: "Uhm,..I see... you certainly like GREEN, don't you!..."
And I thiiiink I know why they figure that out so fast... ;p
Nothing sweeter and more cheering than grrrrrreat shades of greens with some turquoise and blue companions!
These above Pics resemble the palette I mostly use in my home as well as my crafts.
I can't help it - It's just LOVE <3<3<3.

Cheers!
Tiki
