MidweekMINDFUEL

A doodle I made some time ago came to my mind today, when thinking about how to get my dream of a design business going... How am I supposed to handle all the tasks...will I make it? Do I have the skills required? Am I running into failure? Basically: WHATever! Biggest failure will always be NOT trying anyways, right?! ;)

MidweekMINDFUEL

For years now my mind keeps trying to build ways and possibilities how to go on with Life, and all sorts of dreams about what I want to do with it. There are loooads of things, paths, places and works I could imagine and huge amounts of wishes fairly "realistic"... Most of these plans still seem extremely improbable and/or really hard to accomplish.
But WHAT THE HECK?! - why should THAT destroy golden plans for this splendid single one of LIFE one has been lucky enough to have on this earth??

Trying and failing is ever so much better than not trying at all...

When it comes to Belief...

Today I'd like to share something about a topic I originally meant to keep out of this blog.
But since I do want these pages here to be an instrument to share my worthiest inspirations with you guys, here's some meaningful words of a person I feel much intellectual and philosophical admiration for:

 Richard Dawkins

.. to whom I owe a lot of MINDspiration... or to put it clearer a lot of "THANKs to the Universe, I'm NOT crazy, and NOT the only one feeling a little off and out of society's common beliefs"-kinda thoughts.

This is balm for the soul of a wondering mind!

CAUTION: might cause critical reconsideration of faiths...

Disclaimer: Because it's maybe a critical topic to some people (though I think it shouldn't be so taboo to discuss about, actually).
I never intend to judge any whatsoever sort of religious beliefs of any person or group, do not mean to offend anyone's faith, far less to missionize my own beliefs and opinions (if you feel anger about atheism, just do not watch the video OR even better WATCH IT and learn to see unbiased with your own eyes;)
May everyone find out for themselves, what sort of thought and faith brings out the best in them, makes them strong, happy, caring, loving and peaceful! I say whatever works, goes! ;P

love to you all!

WeekenTIKI
~signs, signs, everywhere signs!

Here's some long overdue Tiki Culture updating! Okay,... updating might not be quite the right word, regarding the vintage origin of Tiki Pop culture. But I'm happy to see so many people still being totally into that cult and style and keeping it alive! This is a collection of some of my favorite signage design of Tiki bars and hotels found mainly via Pinterest.

~Summer please don't go!~

unknown source, found on Pinterest

As the days get shorter and more than half of the summer months are over... slightly creeps in that feeling of loosing something...going back to grey, cool, more serious days at work and school and college. =(

But HEY, it's NOT OVER YET! =P

So let's get out those shorts, sunglasses, tanks, tube-tops, shell bracelets and messy beach hair again and keep wearing it all as long as we can until we get chilblained! ...
Keep up the Aloha-Feeling!

Announcing: ARCHIthursday ^-^
~ Dragspelhuset by "24h"

the DRAGSPELHUSET by 24h architects via Architizer

Being a student of Architecture I'm constantly surrounded by sources of spacial inspiration. Maybe everybody is, but not everyone is trained to recognize architectural design in detail, because buildings around us are taken for granted.
From now on I'll try to bring you some of the most inspiring and amazing architectures to a point here every week... to share with you the fascination I feel for the art of building(s). ;)

As a starter here's a video about the "Accordion House" or "Dragspelhuset" by Dutch bureau 24h architects
VIDEO:

http://www.veeds.org/2013/08/21/Ziehharmonika-Haus-in-Suedschweden/

(I'm sorry for non German speakers, but it's definitely worth watching even if you don't understand a word!=)

This house first caught my attention a few years ago, when I saw photos of the interior, which showed the complex shape and cavern-like curves and irregularities. The walls give the impression of a wood-shingle covered bear cave. Especially because a layer of animal pelts is attached for maximum coziness. ^-^

The house is actually an extention to an existing cabin. It was supposed to fit in it's environment without the attitude of presenting itself as of great importance. The beautiful cedar shingles were mounted by hand. Time, sun and weather give them a patina which fits in perfectly to the surrounding forest landscape.

The most innovative part though, is that this house is extendable, like an accordion. It has a built in mechanism, that allows to draw one part of the building further out, so the interior space increases!

HUEsday...daring orange

Orange to Red gradient with lots of bright icy Turquoise and cool dark Blues for contrast.
Beautiful Kyoto Landscape
found on Far and Far away

For people who know me it's no secret that I've got a little feud with the color orange. . . I can't explain why, but it kinda repels me most of the time.
But helping out Mom with renovation lately, I had to face a lot of orange. . . There's lots of reds, oranges and especially aged, orangy shaded wood furniture to find in her apartment. All that is supposed to stay, because of budget, so had to come up with ideas how to combine these tones with other materials and hues so it would look . . .well, more bearable. ;b
Here's some combinations I could actually start liking. . .;)

Cooler light salmon-colored hue with brighter orange combined with shiny Lime Green and bits of Rosé.
Bright Kimono worn in Shinto Ceremony
(img could not be tracked down to origin - anyone who recognizes it, please leave me a note so I can give proper credits)
Nature's creativity: Orange hues divided by bright pinky Violet plus greenish Yellow highlights!
<3 Bark of Madrone Evergreen Tree.

Indian-style palette with lots of Violet, Purple and Yellow - the brighter, the better.

Peachy orange with sublte Pinks and cool Blues.

Another contrasty palette with cool Aqua, Turquoise, blueish Violet and Yellow accompanying some bright Oranges.

(late) mondayMAKINGS #6
~Vacation Memories~

Drawing beach treasures...

  Dear patient readers!

Finally I manage to take some time getting back into BLOGGING! YAY!^^
THX for stopping by, and not forgetting about my Bastelbar! =D
It's actually Tuesday already, I know... but now that I found time to blog, why wait another week? ;)
(good thing about being the one who made the rules... means I can break them whenever I have to)

After a hard and long exams period I had the chance to break out of everything here at home and
went on vacation for two weeks to the beautiful, magical, sweet and awesome coast of Lyme Regis.
It's a small town in South England, with a famous harbour, great landscape and friendly inhabitants.
Here's some offspring of the(re)creational time I took there.
Hope you enjoy it. Feel free to leave a critique in the comments below! ^^

Standby... please

. . . Folks, it's been a while, I know . . .
I haven't been able to keep up posting here for some time.
Exams and other college and work tasks are occupying just too much time. Since I'm coming nearer to my finals, I had to choose making this my no.1 priority.
But it's not much longer till I'm going to be through with that and will finally be able to catch up with blogging. (YAY)
Soooo looking forward to it! ^-^
Hope you're going to stick around and come back to my blog from time to time in the next week(s).
I promise there will be news! ;)

Thank you all so much for stopping by! I appreciate your patience! =)
LOVE,
Tiki

P.S.: To give you a visual idea of how even the free-time sunny Sundays are spent in front of the laptop :. . . (It's looking nicer than it feels, working and learning when the weather actually screams for swiming pool and barbecue with friends...)

mondayMAKINGS #5
~3D Chair design & rendering~

Maybe you didn't notice it, but last week the mondayMAKINGS had to be skipped. =/
Having some exams in college next week, I'm kinda busy I have to admit...

But today I'll give out a quick post nonetheless. The following picture is a simple rendering exercise I did for a Cinema4D course about 2 years ago. It was all 3d-built, formed, textured, lighted and rendered with Cinema4D R11.
Hardest part was forming the cushions, so they look as if someone sat on the chair before... but it was fun!
I love working with C4D. Visualizations are my favourite part of working on an architecture design. ^^

Tiki's DIYary #3 ^-^
...today :

that you can even purchase in my shop !!! =D)

Hope you will enjoy. . .
(and maybe feel inspired to try it yourself, when you see how easy it is;)

in case the Video below isn't shown right .. check out directly on YouTube, HERE

If there's anything you like or didn't about this, or you have any kind of tips and critique - please feel invited to shout it out in the comments!
