~signs, signs, everywhere signs!

Here's some long overdue Tiki Culture updating! Okay,... updating might not be quite the right word, regarding the vintage origin of Tiki Pop culture. But I'm happy to see so many people still being totally into that cult and style and keeping it alive! This is a collection of some of my favorite signage design of Tiki bars and hotels found mainly via Pinterest.

~Summer please don't go!~

unknown source, found on Pinterest

As the days get shorter and more than half of the summer months are over... slightly creeps in that feeling of loosing something...going back to grey, cool, more serious days at work and school and college. =(

But HEY, it's NOT OVER YET! =P

So let's get out those shorts, sunglasses, tanks, tube-tops, shell bracelets and messy beach hair again and keep wearing it all as long as we can until we get chilblained! ...
Keep up the Aloha-Feeling!

Announcing: ARCHIthursday ^-^
~ Dragspelhuset by "24h"

the DRAGSPELHUSET by 24h architects via Architizer

Being a student of Architecture I'm constantly surrounded by sources of spacial inspiration. Maybe everybody is, but not everyone is trained to recognize architectural design in detail, because buildings around us are taken for granted.
From now on I'll try to bring you some of the most inspiring and amazing architectures to a point here every week... to share with you the fascination I feel for the art of building(s). ;)

As a starter here's a video about the "Accordion House" or "Dragspelhuset" by Dutch bureau 24h architects
VIDEO:

(I'm sorry for non German speakers, but it's definitely worth watching even if you don't understand a word!=)

This house first caught my attention a few years ago, when I saw photos of the interior, which showed the complex shape and cavern-like curves and irregularities. The walls give the impression of a wood-shingle covered bear cave. Especially because a layer of animal pelts is attached for maximum coziness. ^-^

The house is actually an extention to an existing cabin. It was supposed to fit in it's environment without the attitude of presenting itself as of great importance. The beautiful cedar shingles were mounted by hand. Time, sun and weather give them a patina which fits in perfectly to the surrounding forest landscape.

The most innovative part though, is that this house is extendable, like an accordion. It has a built in mechanism, that allows to draw one part of the building further out, so the interior space increases!

HUEsday...daring orange

Orange to Red gradient with lots of bright icy Turquoise and cool dark Blues for contrast.
Beautiful Kyoto Landscape
found on Far and Far away

For people who know me it's no secret that I've got a little feud with the color orange. . . I can't explain why, but it kinda repels me most of the time.
But helping out Mom with renovation lately, I had to face a lot of orange. . . There's lots of reds, oranges and especially aged, orangy shaded wood furniture to find in her apartment. All that is supposed to stay, because of budget, so had to come up with ideas how to combine these tones with other materials and hues so it would look . . .well, more bearable. ;b
Here's some combinations I could actually start liking. . .;)

Cooler light salmon-colored hue with brighter orange combined with shiny Lime Green and bits of Rosé.
Bright Kimono worn in Shinto Ceremony
(img could not be tracked down to origin - anyone who recognizes it, please leave me a note so I can give proper credits)
Nature's creativity: Orange hues divided by bright pinky Violet plus greenish Yellow highlights!

Indian-style palette with lots of Violet, Purple and Yellow - the brighter, the better.

~Vacation Memories~

Drawing beach treasures...

  Dear patient readers!

Finally I manage to take some time getting back into BLOGGING! YAY!^^
THX for stopping by, and not forgetting about my Bastelbar! =D
It's actually Tuesday already, I know... but now that I found time to blog, why wait another week? ;)
(good thing about being the one who made the rules... means I can break them whenever I have to)

After a hard and long exams period I had the chance to break out of everything here at home and
went on vacation for two weeks to the beautiful, magical, sweet and awesome coast of Lyme Regis.
It's a small town in South England, with a famous harbour, great landscape and friendly inhabitants.
Here's some offspring of the(re)creational time I took there.
Hope you enjoy it. Feel free to leave a critique in the comments below! ^^
